Keri, 1 lesson with Ashley

My daughter was struggling with Chemistry Honors all year. She met with Ashley for a 2 hour review session before her final, and said she learned more from her in 2 hours than she did from her teacher all year. She was VERY patient and knowledgeable. Explained things in a different way so that my daughter was able to grasp it and made her more confident for her test. Thank you so much Ashley!!

I would love to use that experience to help your student achieve their maximum potential. I hold an MEd in secondary education as well as a BA in Linguistics and Middle Eastern Studies from Rutgers University, and a MA in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies from Columbia University, but I have done extensive coursework in many different areas. Over the course of my education, I have been trained to approach problems from as many different angles as possible. One of the things I love about teaching is the opportunity to share that knowledge and that training with my students, giving them the skills to continue to learn on their own.

I currently teach History at a private school in Las Vegas, though I also hold a Teaching License from the State of Massachusetts.

My tutoring specialties include:
Remote Learning support
Exam Prep (SAT, ACT, SAT II, AP, GRE)
Writing (Particularly advanced essay/paper writing)
History, Politics, Social Studies (Classroom teacher with high pass rates for APUSH, AP Euro, and AP Human Geography)
Literature
Chemistry
Mathematics - through Algebra II

Study Skills

For the past two years, I have worked with students of all ages (late elementary school to high school and even college) to improve their study skills. Often, even minor changes in their habits or approaches to schoolwork helps students get more out of their study time. I can help your student understand what their teachers are asking them to do, and how to create and execute plans to work smarter, as well as harder.

English,

English

Many students struggle with English classes because the basics (grammar and spelling, primarily) are not taught as thoroughly as they used to be in classrooms. These skills are still incredibly vital - students cannot learn to write effectively, or to process literature, without mastering them. I have years of experience helping students of all ages grasp the important basics and more advanced skills, including analysis of literature and the art of writing an effective essay.

SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

SAT Reading is a little bit of a misleading title, as there are no points awarded for actually reading the material! Instead, test-takers earn points for properly analyzing the text they are given. I achieved a perfect 800 score for Reading when I was 16, and began teaching others when I was an undergraduate. With six years, and a lot of intuitive insight, under my belt, I can help your student maximize his or her potential, and get the right start to college applications.

SAT Writing,

SAT Writing

The SAT Writing section presents many students with their biggest challenge on test day. Often, this is because (in addition to needing a brush-up on many grammar concepts), test-takers are not sure what the essay portion is expecting of them. I can help your students master the formula for an effective essay on the SAT - which will, in fact, give them the basic formula for effective writing for the rest of their academic careers.

Writing,

I have been helping students, from middle school through college, improve their writing skills for almost ten years. I do not only provide help with grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure; I am particularly effective at helping students master the structure and format of the persuasive academic essay. This structure will be used for almost everything a student writes, from seventh grade book reports, to the SAT essay, on through a Masters dissertation. Writing skills are cumulative, and it is never too early for your student to start perfecting his.
