Islanders eager for start of new season MOST of the Wightlink 2007 side and riders of other clubs had a practice session at Smallbrook on Tuesday and all the riders will certainly be on the IW this weekend. Firstly be taking part in the now traditional pre-season pool match at the Old Manor House Inn at Lake tonight (Friday) and then tomorrow it is the official press and practice day at the track that will culminate with a disco in the clubhouse in the evening. Supporters are welcome to attend both Friday and events free of charge.

The press and practice day will start at 11.30am where all track staff, sponsors, advertisers, press and shareholders will be introduced to the team. Then the riders will take to the track and be put through their paces following a photo session and the evening disco will round off what promises to be a very busy day. The Wightlink young winter Aussie signing, Corey Gathercole, is eagerly looking forward to his debut season in Britain and hoping for warmer weather and soon. from Mildura in Victoria where the temperatures are often in excess of 30 degrees Celsius, finding it really cold said Gathercole. team manager Dave Croucher and promoters Martin Newnham and Dave Pavitt have assured me it will warm up, eventually.

The not really a problem and right now I wait for the season to start and to riding for the Island. very happy to be at Smallbrook this year and really good that be riding in the same side as fellow Aussie Chris Holder. I came to the UK briefly last year and could- wait to get back here racing on a full-time basis although I fully realise that 2007 is going to be very much a learning year for me. tracks will be new to me although I did ride at a few of them when I was over here last year. ambition is, of course, to eventually step up into the Elite League but got to prove myself first and the way looking at things at the moment, probably spend at least two years racing at Premier League level Corey has certainly proved himself in Australia, having won both the Western Australian and Victorian State Champion- ships during the winter as well as riding in the senior national title series and narrowly missing out on the under-21 crown after suf- fering a fall while leading the deciding race.
