Some of the most popular species found while fishing at this pier include snook, tarpon, grouper, black sea bass, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, sheepshead, red snapper and pompano. Open 24 hours a day, visitors can enjoy stunning sunrise and sunsets every day of the year.

You can park and sleep in Florida Rest Areas on all Interstates. The rest area at the south end of the Skyway Bridge has pull-thru parking spots for RV's and Semi's, has security and rest rooms as well as a great view of the bay.

The first ¾ mile of the south pier is around 6-to 7-feet deep, where it then begins to gradually drop to 10- to 14-foot depths. It keeps dropping to 20-foot depths about a ½ mile from where the bridge makes a bend to the north.
